The Best Seasonal Cocktails for March (aka end of winter, finally)

March 10, 2018

I got very lucky as I started to think about this month’s installment of seasonal cocktails, in that I just stumbled upon a calendar that is going to make them much, much easier (and actually pretty educational too).

Yes, I did have to Google “what is Sharon Fruit” and “what the f*$# is a nettle?” but my ignorance here is your gain as I have found three boozy ways to get your fruit and veggie servings this month. So here you go, our seasonal cocktails for the near-end of winter: volume 3.

Sharon Fruit

Sharon fruit is a type of persimmon grown in Israel. They have no seeds and do not need to be peeled, making this wonderfully sweet and fresh fruit super easy to incorporate into the cocktail of your choice. My choice? This persimmon margarita with only four ingredients: persimmon puree (of course), tequila (duh), lime juice and simple syrup. Getting my daily serving of fruit was never more satisfying.

Yes I did Google “what the f*$# is a nettle?” and came up with this: "a plant used as one of the most potent herbal medicines. They are rich in iron, potassium, calcium, and a veritable slew of other vitamins and minerals, and they do everything from purifying the blood to cleansing the digestive system.”  So YES, let’s add some liquor in there and just make the healthiest cocktail ever with this nettle, bourbon and ginger beer choice.

Mandarin Oranges

Yes this was an easy fruit to tackle. No Googling of “what is a mandarin?” required (FYI, it’s an orange). The sweet fruit is high in vitamin C so again, super healthy cocktail options abound. Like this mandarin orange old fashioned cocktail that steps the fruity taste up a notch with the addition of maraschino cherries.
